⚡ Quick Verdict & Recommendation
Quick answer:
- Real unlimited drinks: Private boat charters only — bring your own, no restrictions
- Best pre-included drinks: Stromma Candlelight (wine + cheese) and Those Dam Boat Guys (beer available to buy)
- Warning: Most big operators prohibit outside drinks — check before you bring a crate of Heineken

If you've searched for "booze cruise Amsterdam" hoping to find a party boat where unlimited Heineken flows from the moment you board, we should set expectations: Amsterdam doesn't really have that, at least not from the big commercial operators. What it does have is several very good options for drinking on the water — you just need to know where to look.
The honest landscape
Amsterdam's main canal cruise operators — Lovers, Blue Boat, Stromma — are licensed tourist businesses that operate under strict rules. Bringing your own alcohol is generally prohibited. Alcohol available on board is limited (Stromma includes wine, others sell it at bar prices).
The exception is private boat hire. When you rent a sloep (small electric boat), you're the skipper on your own vessel and can bring whatever you like — within limits.
Those Dam Boat Guys — closest to a social bar atmosphere
This is the operator you want for a group with a social vibe. The boats are smaller (max 12 people), the guides are chatty Amsterdammers, and craft beers are available to buy. It's not unlimited, but the atmosphere is closer to a canalside bar than a tourist attraction.

Renting your own boat — the real party option
For groups of 4–10 who want true freedom, renting a sloep is the answer. You bring your own drinks, your own music (Bluetooth speaker), and go at your own pace. The only rule: the person steering must stay under the legal limit (0.2 permille in Dutch waterways).

Dinner cruise with wine — the sophisticated option
Stromma's Candlelight Cruise includes wine and cheese. It's not unlimited, but it's included in the ticket price and the setting — lit-up bridges after dark, small group, 90 minutes — is genuinely excellent.
Drinks policy comparison
| Operator | Outside drinks | Drinks on board |
|---|---|---|
| Lovers | Not allowed | Dinner cruise only |
| Blue Boat | Not allowed | None |
| Stromma Candlelight | Not allowed | Wine included |
| Those Dam Boat Guys | Not allowed | Beer for purchase |
| Private sloep hire | Allowed | Bring your own |
The rules you need to know
Amsterdam's canals are governed by the Waterwet. The blood alcohol limit for boat operators is 0.2 permille (stricter than road driving). The Gemeentepolitie patrols the canals actively on weekends. Passengers can drink freely; only the skipper is restricted.
What's Actually "Bottomless"?
The term "bottomless" in Amsterdam's canal cruise context is worth reading carefully. In practice it usually means:
- Bottomless beer/wine: Typically 2 hours of unlimited pours from a limited selection (often 2–3 beers, 1 white wine, 1 rosé). Premium spirits are always extra.
- Bottomless prosecco: Similar to above — a single pour at a time, refilled on request, within the allotted time window.
- Bottomless "drinks": The widest category, but read the operator's terms for what counts.
None of the Amsterdam bottomless packages we've tested include craft beer or premium spirits in the base price. If that matters to you, the borrelboot private hire option may deliver better value.
Practical Tips
Food: Most booze cruise packages don't include food. Eat beforehand — drinking on a moving boat on an empty stomach in canal air is faster-acting than you expect.
Time: 2 hours is the standard. If you want longer, look for operators who offer 3-hour evening packages — less common but available, especially for groups.
Groups: For stag/hen parties or corporate bookings, a private sloep with your own drinks often works out cheaper per person than a group booze cruise booking. Run the numbers before committing.
