Romantic, family, private hire, or food & drinks — decide what kind of experience you're after.
Our comparison table puts prices, boarding points, duration, and perks side by side — no guesswork.
Our links go straight to each operator — no markup, no middleman, same price as booking direct.
Amsterdam has more canal cruise operators than you can count on two hands, and most tourist sites just list whoever pays them the most. We did this differently. Our writer Lisa van der Berg has lived in Amsterdam her whole life and took every major cruise across different seasons. She's the person you'd ask if you actually knew someone here. This guide covers what you'd want to know before you book: what the boats are really like, which ones run late, where to board without a 45-minute wait, and what's actually worth the premium price.
April–May and September–October hit the sweet spot: good weather, fewer crowds, and lower prices than peak summer.
Evening cruises and the Stromma Candlelight Cruise sell out weeks in advance in summer. Daytime tours are more flexible.
Most boats leave from Damrak (a 5-min walk from Centraal Station). Stromma also boards near the Rijksmuseum. Double-check before you go.
A light jacket (it's cooler on the water), sunscreen for open-top boats, and a waterproof bag for your phone.
